The benefit of travel information comes from expected response by drivers, which is considered as one of important subjects of ATIS. In this paper, the characteristics of drivers' route choice are studied by means of experimental approaches including SP survey and computer?aid test. The study focus on how a driver makes his/her decision between routes with different familiarity when travel time information is provided. The possibility of a driver changes from his usual route to an alternative stranger but with better traffic condition is discussed. Multifactor Logit model is effective to describe drivers' behavior of route choice but is difficult to use because of its complexity. A simplified multinomial Logit model is presented in the paper. In this model, as an effectual simplification, travel time and route familiarity are considered as two basic factors instead of those used in usual Logit models.
