THE ROLE OF RTI IN COMBATTING CONGESTION
Ian Catling, Michael G H Bell · 1990
This paper concentrates on the applications of the IRTE (Integrated Road Transport Environment) which directly affect the problem of congestion. A description is given of the contribution RTI applications can make to relieving congestion, taking into account elasticities of demand. Finally, the paper reviews current developments in each major application area and discusses possible implementation scenarios. The major DRIVE project TARDIS is investigating the potential for integrating different RTI applications, including dynamic route guidance, traffic control, and road pricing systems.
