This article describes Project 54, a Justice Department-sponsored initiative in which voice activation and integrated electronics will allow law enforcement officials to run their cruisers from a central console with voice commands. The vehicles feature an onboard computer which contains information from current state files that have been downloaded wirelessly. Handheld devices will also allow officers access to the central console while they are away from their vehicles.
