TECHNICAL FEATURES OF THE PLANNED EUROPEAN RADIO MESSAGING SYSTEM - ERMES

Ahmad Alshamali, R.C.V. Macario · 1994

The planned European Radio Messaging System (ERMES) aims to provide an enhanced radio paging service to meet a growing demand for roaming within the European community. The frequency band 169.425 - 169.8 MHz is allocated for the system. This allocation implies a possible differential delay of up to 50 ms, because of the feature of a quasi synchronous mode of operation. This could impose certain implementation and operational complexities. Interference with some TV channels in Europe in Band III, and with some private mobile radio bands is also a concern.
