Describes the Vehicle Information Communication System (VICS) in which roadside beacons are used to transmit road and traffic information to vehicles equipped with compatible systems. The VICS project is an effort to harmonize the various Japanese road and traffic information systems that have been developed separately. These include the Road and Automobile Communication System (RACS) and the Advanced Mobile Traffic Information and Communication System (AMTICS).
