A STUDY ON THE REAL TIME MEASUREMENT OF VEHICLE SPEED USING DYNAMIC IMAGE PROCESSING

B-W Kang Hwang · 1998

This paper describes a system and its algorithm which measure the traffic flow on the road by using CCD (Charge Coupled Devices) or ITV (Industrial Television) applied in industry. This algorithm is for the measurement of speed of vehicles using the real time processing of dynamic scenes. The validity of the algorithm is shown by designing VISC (Video Information Sampler and Converter). The processing algorithm of dynamic images is developed and proved its validity by new measuring technique. The measuring technique uses variation in the gray level of pixels and sample points with crossed direction of the vehicles. The algorithm has resulted in an increased accuracy with lower measuring errors. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
