STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF ACCIDENTS ON ITALIAN HIGHWAYS

Accident analysis is an important instrument in studies that have as their objectives the definition of the condition of safety on the state highways. This paper studies the accident phenomenon on Italian two-lane highways. The sample used was made up of 600 km (374 mi) of Sicilian highways from which the data on traffic flow and accidents form 1980 to 1990 were studied.
