VARIO EXACT CHIP SPREADER FOR SMA APPLICATIONS

K O Ueberback · XIIIth World meeting of the International Road FederationInternational Road Federation · 1997

This paper discusses the development of a self-propelled spreader for spreading chips on road surfaces with high demands on the distribution result. The chip spreader, working with vibratory spreading technique and automatic spreading quantity control, sets new standards for spreading chips on road surface layers. The vibratory spreading technique combined with the very low falling height guarantees highest possible distribution uniformity. A specially developed stone counter records the falling chips between the spreader and the road surface. Equipped with 10 smooth tires and an anti-stick agent spraying system, the spreader can be driven on hot asphalt layers. The spreading quantity can be controlled so that only the amount of chip material is distributed that can actually be bound by the asphalt surface, thus reducing the need to sweep the road after spreading is completed.
