HEADY RISE OF LOW COST SENSORS
Gregory Flynn · 1978
This article analyzes the growing use of low-cost sensors in combination with even lower cost microprocessors by the Detroit auto companies. Once low cost, accurate sensors are readily available for automobiles, they are expected to gain acceptance in other, non-automotive uses. The use of sensors on automobiles to measure and thus aid in the control of ignition, fuel and emissions represents a vast enlargement of automatic control. Some applications for sensors that are tied in with the microprocessor are also discussed.
