Data Acquisition Systems

Miguel F. Acevedo · 2015

A data acquisition system (DAS) is a microprocessor-based system that can read sensors and transducers (Chapters 2 and 3) using signal conditioning and A/D converters (Chapter 4). In addition, it includes data storage and data retrieval (this chapter) and, optionally, a telecommunications device (Chapter 7). Therefore, a DAS is the first step in going from transducers to data-processing components (Figure 5.1). Further, data-processing components include computers that will perform calculations on data for warnings and alerts, trends, archival, and other purposes.
