Metacomputing: technology and applications

T. G. Typou, Konstantinos G. Margaritis · WIT Press eBooks · 2001

High performance computing deals with solving large computational problems. New and existing applications demand more and more computing resources, not found in any current computing system, be it a powerful workstation, a LAN or a single massively parallel platform. Metacomputing is an effort to utilize the overall existing inter-networked computing power. Supercomputers, parallel computers, powerful workstations, clusters as well as simple LANs may soon become part of global computing systems, i.e., metacomputers.
