Random Waypoint Model and Wireless Network Simulation
Paolo Santi · 2012
The random waypoint (RWP) model is the most popular mobility model for ad hoc networks, and it is included in the vast majority of wireless network simulators. However, it is important to understand that, if not adequately used, the RWP mobility model can lead to inaccurate simulation results due to the border effect and speed decay phenomena. After discussing why the border effect and speed decay can impair the accuracy of simulation results, this chapter presents recently developed methodologies aimed at completely removing the border effect and speed decay in RWP mobile networks. Then, it describes how these methodologies can be combined to build a ”perfect” simulation framework. Controlled Vocabulary Terms ad hoc networks; mobile radio mobility management; wireless networks
