Advanced Transportation Controller Standards and Interoperability
Dave Miller · ITE journal · 2010
This paper discusses standardization issues associated with intelligent transportation systems. New advanced transportation controller (ATC) standards will allow for greater interoperability without compromising choice for agencies. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has also developed a new standard that includes a wireless message set for communications from roadside equipment to vehicles and well as between vehicles. The ATC and SAE standards will create a seamless bridge between different elements such as traffic control, vehicle safety, emergency services and transit. The standards allow software developers to have a modern platform for transportation and security applications in the future.
