VIEWING VELOCITY IN FLOW FIELDS
Richard D. Charles · Mechanical Engineering · 1989
Methods for presenting and interpreting flow field data have improved a great deal but progress has not kept up with improvements in techniques for producing the information itself. This is most apparent when investigators attempt to display and interpret velocity patterns in a flow field--which often is the data field of interest for fluid dynamicists--since many techniques for displaying flow fluid field data cannot show both the magnitude and orientation of flow velocity on the same plot. A new method is described that represents these and other conditions via the color and brightness of pixels in a computer graphics display.
