THE NETWORKED VEHICLE: INFORMATION DISTRIBUTION - SAFETY - ARCHITECTURE

Dieter Kraft · 2001

Distributed and networked structures are incorporated into today's vehicle systems. There is a trend towards substituting hardware-based sub-systems by mechatronic solutions driven by software. Information distribution is discussed with reference to multimedia, e.g. the CAN-bus, vehicle body functions, the drivetrain, back-up systems, X-by-wire systems, and virtual functions. The safety of X-by-wire systems is considered and the reasons for designing such systems as distributed systems are outlined. The structuring principles of CARTRONIC are described.
