THE PILOT PROJECT OF EXPRESS BUS INFORMATION SYSTEM (EBIS) IN KOREA
S Yoo Namkoong · 1998
The express bus information system (EBIS) is one of the advanced public transportation system (APTS) which provides the passengers with estimated arrival time and other related information, such as city bus transfer and weather news in the destination area. EBIS control center collects running vehicle's location data identified by GPS receiver, and provides data to the vehicle through wireless communication infrastructure. The EBIS pilot project that is currently in the experimental stage will test the feasibility of applying advanced communication technology to express information system for transmitting traffic data through wireless networks. The system is under experiments for 57 express buses running between Seoul and Daejun, Seoul and Kwangju, and will be extended to other major highway Systems, when it turns out to be feasible, technologically and financially. In addition, in this project, the possibility will be tested of utilization of probe data in generating reliable information of O-D travel time and arrival time of the vehicle.
