Challenges for ECA Rule Designers when Implementing Coordination Protocols

In this paper we present lessons learned from an implementation of a task shared cooperation protocol using event-condition-action (ECA) rules in the active database ACOOD. In particular we present details of challenges for ECA rule designers when supporting advanced forms of coordination protocols. Keywords: Active databases, coordination protocols, task sharing. 1 Introduction We belive that applications developed within the frameworks of Cooperative Information Systems [14] and Cooperative Information Agents [15] will have to deal with techniques from both distributed artificial intelligence (DAI) and database management systems.
