SYSTEM CONCEPTS FOR SERIAL DATA COMMUNICATIONS IN CARS

U Wenkebach, Bernhard Reckels · 1989

In the past, discussions concerning automotive networks have been dedicated mostly to the protocol and the components used. However, it is necessary to spend some effort in an investigation on the automobile as a complete electronic system in itself. A system concept for an in- vehicle multiplex wiring network using the CAN- protocol is presented, covering the topics: requirements on the in- vehicle network regarding robustness against faults; concept for the behaviour of the total system as the result of the behaviour of all electronic subsystems (network members); and, required hardware for different approaches. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 850768.
