Stimulating Application Development; “Relation between UPI and Smartphone Application Performance”
K. Mekic · Utrecht University Repository (Utrecht University) · 2011
This paper studies the different forms of User Producer interaction (UPI) in the smartphone application development industry. The research at first focuses on exploring the field of smartphone application development from the producer perspective showing how Dutch iPhone application producers manage user involvement, the different methods they apply and the corresponding stages in this process together with the problems they encounter along the way. Succeedingly the user side is investigated by analyzing data from the Apple smartphone application store (Appstore). This makes it possible to identify the way in which users interact with producers using this store. This research paper also indicates the value of the Appstore. Furthermore it also shows where the views on the usefulness of the Appstore differ between application users and application producers and where there are possibilities for improvement. In the end it is concluded that post-market UPI helps to improve application development and stimulate perceived application performance.
