'SMART' MICROWAVE SENSOR FOR INCIDENT DETECTION
Eugene F. Greneker, M.C. McGee · 1994
Georgia Tech Research Institute in the USA presented the concept of using a single microwave sensor to classify vehicle types, monitor the speed of the traffic flow, sense truck overheight situations and detect the occurrence of incidents (accidents) in a paper presented at the 1993 ISATA conference. Since the 1993 conference, the real-time detection of incidents using a homodyne microwave radar sensor has been pursued. This paper describes the results of this work at the date of paper publication and also provides an overview of the issues that must still be resolved before the technique can be used as a commercial sensor.
