INCIDENTAL MUSIC : TTI TALKS VIDEO DETECTION WITH JO VERSAVEL
C. Moss · Traffic Technology International · 2005
This article presents an industry perspective on the state of the art of video detection technology and its future. It article also includes three case studies: the Beirut Tunnel in Dubai, Athens’ city center, and Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. In Europe, the primary focus of traffic video detection is tunnel safety. No other technology is as effective as video detection systems in terms of speed and reliability. In addition to tunnel safety, new detection features include pedestrian detection, smoke and fire detection in tunnels, ghost drivers on highways, traffic speed drops, queue detection, automatic number plate recognition, and detection of fallen cargo. In years past, video detection systems relied on fixed cameras. Advances have since made it possible to perform video detection using pan tilt zoom (PTZ) cameras.
