The Seer: Switzerland's National Telematics Masterplan Outlines the Country's Goals for the Next Six Years

In this article, the author describes the ITS Switzerland 2012 Master Plan which has as its objective to achieve compatible and interoperable transportation telematics applications throughout Switzerland and beyond. The author relates that Switzerland has already established itself as an appropriate testbed for innovative telematics applications, as witnessed through the Swiss Heavy Vehicle Fee system (LSVA), the first road user charging system in the world using GPS and DSRC technologies. The author also discusses how the 2012 Master Plan has established a framework establishing how future road transportation responsibilities will be shared by the different governmental bodies.
