IRE : an image registration environment for volumetric medical images

Multi-modal volumetric medical image registration is accomplished by mapping the coordinate space of one three-dimensional image set to the coordinate space of another three-dimensional image set of the same or differing modality using some transformation function. In this thesis, the transformation function in this report is found by maximizing the mutual information between the image sets. A parabolic search function is used to optimize mutual information with respect to the multivariate transformation function. The results this search produces are presented. Advantages of implementingParzen windows to estimate probability density are also tested.
