Distributed software development (DSD) is becoming popular due to the potential of delivering highquality software products in a timely and economical manner.Recently, practitioners started to apply agile software development methods to their DSD environment.However, there are not many empirical researches that have reported whether the agile methods are really viable for distributed software development.This paper illustrates the issues of the Scrum software development method in a geographically distributed software development team setting as it applies to large-scale and missioncritical projects.Through an in-depth case study, we examine how communication, coordination, and control issues are managed and what technologies are expected to mitigate the difficulties arising in distributed Scrum (DScrum).Finally, we suggest several ideas to overcome the issues discovered in this study.
