In mobile ad hoc networks, changes in topology caused by the movement of hosts and changes in radio link connectivity make it difficult for mobile hosts to maintain access to data on other hosts. To solve such a problem, replica distribution methods which distribute replicas of data items to other mobile hosts and maintain them have been proposed; we have proposed the skip copy (SC) method especially for maintaining location-dependent data. The SC method sparsely distributes replicas of location-dependent data items likely to be requested. This is done through geocasting around the source locations of the items, and enables high accessibility to the replicas even if the connectivity between the original hosts of the data and the requesting hosts is intermissive. However, the effect of the mobile host behavior on the ability to access location-dependent data has not been evaluated for the SC method. We evaluated the SC method through a detailed simulation that included three mobile host data-access models.
