Stability of Strings in Gauge Abelian Theory

The mass of strings with various circulations is calculated in Abelian gauge theory. The calculations were made by numerical solution of a system of nonlinear differential equations. It is shown by choice of a trial function that strings with large circulation in the case of large coupling constants are classically unstable. (AIP)
