This paper presents a comparative analysis of microservices and monolithic architectures with a focus on scalability and performance in file sharing systems. We explore the foundational concepts of both architectures and evaluate their practical implementations through a series of load tests. Our findings illustrate that while monolithic architectures offer simplicity and lower latency due to fewer network calls, microservices provide superior scalability and flexibility, essential for handling dynamic user demands efficiently. The experiments, conducted using Apache JMeter and Locust, demonstrate the performance benefits of microservices in managing high-load scenarios. This study informs developers about the trade-offs between complexity and scalability, helping them better understand which architecture may suit their specific project requirements.
