Tianyuan Yang, Jianwu Jiang · Academy of Management Proceedings · 2025
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) presents both opportunities and challenges in knowledge-intensive decision-making, particularly in the context of innovation. While AI can enhance idea generation through effective human-AI collaboration, it also introduces potential obstacles throughout the innovation process. This study investigates human-AI co-innovation, focusing on three key stages: information preparation, idea generation, and plan implementation. Using grounded theory, the research draws on semi-structured interviews with 21 middle and senior managers in the financial services sector to explore the factors shaping these stages. The findings reveal key considerations that influence information preparation, idea generation, and plan implementation at the individual, team, and organizational levels. By deepening our understanding of human-AI co-innovation, this study contributes both theoretical insights and practical guidance for managing human-AI collaboration to drive meaningful innovation.
