The concept of tourist behavior in the Metaverse has recently gained academic attention, which has resulted in the growth of worldwide publications. This study reviews 16 years of research on this topic by applying Bibliometric and content analysis to 59 academic articles. Findings indicate that despite the infancy stage of the domain, it has been explored from multiple perspectives with various methodologies. This study offers a comprehensively structured Bibliometric and content analysis, facilitating an in-depth study of Metaverse tourism's evolution with the TCCM (theory, context, characteristics and method) approach. Furthermore, the bibliographic coupling technique reveals clusters of emerging themes in the knowledge of metaverse tourism, such as customer behavior, virtual reality, and augmented reality. Finally, a conceptual framework is proposed based on the foundation of thematic clusters, followed by a research agenda.
