Securing 6G-Enabled IoT Using Fog Computing

Shalini Kumari, Chander Prabha · 2025

The need for a strong security structure has been necessitated by fast-paced advancements in technology through the aid of 6G and increased Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Regular centralised security models cannot address unique challenges resulting from dynamic, large-scale IoT systems within 6G networks. This chapter examines how Fog Computing integration can be used as a distributed approach to enhance security in IoT environments enabled for 6G. Moreover, it discusses various mechanisms provided by Fog Computing, viz. encryption, authentication, and intrusion detection, and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in predictive improvements on security. Similarly, it covers privacy-preserving techniques and practical implementation hurdles of fog computing. This chapter also outlines emerging technologies, such as quantum computing, which could shape the future secure 6G IoT network developments of fog computing. The study involves energy-saving strategies, Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, and resource management approaches to establish secure and efficient fog computing solutions in 6G IoT environments. This in-depth analysis provides an understanding of current capabilities and future developments in protecting next-generation IoT networks and integrating fog computing.
