Internet of Drone Things, or IoDT, is an emerging, transformative concept that integrates drones with advanced technologies including IoT, Smart Computer Vision, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Advanced Wireless Communication, and high-end onboard security techniques. This framework posits that drones will integrate with each other seamlessly; thereby the functionality and efficiencies can be enhanced across numerous domains. Droning operations have witnessed their widespread application in nearly every sector, from farming to industries, government bodies to private ventures, as well as smart cities, among others. These areas can become intelligent and autonomous ecosystems through the utilization of these systems. IoDT is quite capable of equipping such drones with appropriate mechanisms to execute monitoring activities such as surveillance, real-time search and rescue, as well as data collection. This chapter presents the conceptual basis of the Internet of Drone Things (IoDT) and how it has evolved with advanced technologies, providing great applicability. Furthermore, critical security issues related to IoDT are discussed and highlighted in context with the development of strong defenses against data and operational breaches. Real-world case studies on the applications of IoDT in agriculture and smart cities discuss its revolutionary capabilities in both fields. For instance, in farming, IoDT can augment precision agriculture with crop monitoring and optimizing resources. Smart cities will see real-time traffic management and urban planning through IoDT.
