Un-Supervised Machine Learning for Computer Vision Image compression

Asif Moiz, Bambam Kumar · Advances in computational intelligence and robotics book series · 2025

Computer Vision (CV) deals with the specific study in which Input applied to the system is an Image while output obtained are some kind of description or information or code. Image compression is an important subset process of computer vision or machine vision in machine learning, as they handle large image datasets for their applications in various fields of image processing, medical image analysis, data analysis, pattern recognition, image classification, detection and several other such applications. To significantly reduce storage space capacity and transmission bandwidth requirements, compressed images are used. Many machine vision and computer vision models deal with large amount of training datasets which can be stored and used for deep learning (DL) model training only by image compression. Compressed images can be processed faster leading to faster computer vision tasks and improved model accuracy while maintaining the original quality.
