Visualisation of 15 min time series for the efficient analysis of the electricity distribution network

Christoph Groiß, Anna Viehhauser · IET conference proceedings. · 2025

In distribution networks, numerous data points are available as 15-minute time series over extended periods. This paper addresses the question of how these measurements can be represented to identify effects and anomalies relevant to power grid operators. The presentation methods introduced here include annual profiles, heatmaps, daily load profiles, and scatter plots. Furthermore, it is demonstrated how these presentation methods can be utilised in practice. Application cases include: "Determining relevant utilisation values for load flow calculation," "Identifying special switching states," "Evaluating the reactive power balance," and "Analysing the reactive power settings of generation plants."
