The growing demand of efficient and sustainable public transport system in urban India require convenient modern ticketing solutions incorporating current technology. This paper presents a smart, automated paperless ticketing system leveraging Near Field Communication (NFC) technology integrated with Android application, Global positioning system (GPS), and Internet of Things (IoT) for real-time data processing and passenger tracking. The system enables contactless fare validation through NFC tags assigned to passengers, automatically calculates fare based on distance travelled, and manages secure digital transactions. Built using components such as NodeMCU, NFC modules, and a GPSenabled mobile application, the solution offers an end-to-end digital framework for transit automation. Designed for reliability and efficiency, the system demonstrates high performance with a 95% NFC detection success rate, average fare processing time of 1.5 - 2 seconds, much faster boarding time and eliminates the need for physical paper tickets, promoting both operational efficiency and environmental sustainability in terms of paper ticket printing and disposal. The proposed paperless ticketing system approach enhances commuter experience, prevents fraudulent ticketing, and empowers transport authorities with real-time monitoring and control, aligning with the future vision of intelligent public mobility systems.
