Asha Yadav · Apple Academic Press eBooks · 2025
Early detection of health conditions is crucial for effective management and treatment of diseases. Electronic media platforms, such as mobile apps, social media, and wearable devices, offer new opportunities for early detection of health conditions. Social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, provide a rich source of information for early detection of health conditions. Researchers have used social media to detect infectious diseases, mental health conditions, and chronic diseases. Apps can monitor vital signs, such as heart rate and blood pressure (BP), and provide feedback on health behaviors, such as exercise and diet. Wearable devices, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, provide continuous monitoring of vital signs and physical activity. Wearable devices can detect abnormal heart rhythms, track sleep patterns, and monitor blood glucose levels. These platforms allow for real-time monitoring of biometric data, personalized feedback and interventions, and convenient and cost-effective screening. However, there are also potential drawbacks, such as limited accessibility, security concerns, and over-reliance on technology. This chapter provides an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of using electronic media platforms for early detection of health conditions and discusses potential strategies to optimize the use of these tools for improved health outcomes. However, it is important to ensure that electronic media platforms are secure, reliable, and meet regulatory standards to ensure patient safety and privacy.
