Cryptography and the Quantum Computing Threat

Siva Subramanian R, B. Yuvasri · 2025

Quantum computing is set to disrupt conventional cryptographic systems by efficiently solving mathematical problems previously considered infeasible. This chapter examines the vulnerabilities introduced by quantum computing and highlights emerging solutions, including post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum key distribution (QKD). It also explores ongoing standardization initiatives, emphasizes the importance of cryptographic agility, and discusses hybrid migration strategies to ensure secure communication in the quantum era. By analyzing current threats alongside future-proof solutions, this chapter underscores the need to prepare digital infrastructures for quantum resilience and calls for collaborative efforts to safeguard information security.
