Artificial Intelligence in Threat Assessment

Immacolata Carcarino · Advances in computational intelligence and robotics book series · 2025

Threat assessment is a systematic process used to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential threats across domains like business, security, and law enforcement. It draws on psychological, sociological, and criminological insights and involves gathering information, analyzing the threat's nature, assessing intent and capability, and crafting a response. Traditional methods often rely on qualitative analysis and historical data, which may introduce bias. This chapter highlights these limitations and explores how artificial intelligence (AI) enhances early detection, reduces human error, and enables organizations to address threats proactively. Ongoing monitoring is essential to ensure response plans remain effective. The integration of AI marks a major shift in how threats are assessed and managed, offering more adaptive and efficient tools for various sectors, including law enforcement, national security, and corporate strategy, in an increasingly complex risk environment.
