A Blockchain-Based Integrity Auditing Scheme for Infectious Disease Data Surveillance

Xiaodong Yang, LI Ruiting, Chengeng Wang, Xilai Luo · 2025

The global COVID-19 outbreak has highlighted the importance of infectious disease data surveillance in stopping the spread of epidemics. The process of infectious disease surveillance generates a large amount of data, including patients' private information. When storing this data in the cloud, integrity auditing can effectively verify whether data loss, data leakage, and data tampering have occurred. This scheme describes a proposed blockchain-based data auditing scheme for infectious disease surveillance, which can realize automated data auditing without relying on a trusted third-party auditor (TPA). To protect data privacy, the scheme introduces a purifier that is responsible for hiding sensitive information in outsourced infectious disease surveillance data. Meanwhile, to address data loss and single points of failure, the scheme solves the problem by generating copies of infectious disease surveillance data and storing them on multiple cloud servers (CS). In addition, to address the issues of certificate management and key escrow, the solution introduces a certificateless signature algorithm to further enhance the security and efficiency of the system.
