Abstract A design process was undertaken to develop a device that would enable a handicapped person to feed paper into a shredder. The device was designed to enable a person without motor control of his/her hands and without the ability to speak to shred paper. A prototype was built and tested successfully, proving the viability of the device. The device provides the operator with two head switches for control and a series of lights to assist the operator. The device is capable of handling several sizes and types of paper: continuous feed “greenbar” paper (15″ x 11″), single sheet 8.5″ x 11″ paper, continuous feed labels, and booklets. It runs approximately 30 minutes between times that the supply bin is reloaded.
