The Lego of Software: Microservices
Akhmadillo Mamirov · 2025
Modern applications like Netflix, Amazon, and Uber rely on distributed computing to achieve scalability, resilience, and high performance. As systems grow to support millions of users, developers must balance performance optimization with the complexity it introduces. One solution that has emerged is microservices architecture, which decomposes monolithic applications into small, independent, and loosely coupled services. These services communicate through lightweight protocols, making them easier to scale, deploy, and maintain. This paper explores the motivations behind adopting microservices, their core principles, and the challenges they address in distributed systems. Drawing from the development of a ticketing application deployed on Kubernetes, it examines practical considerations such as service communication, data replication, fault tolerance, and synchronization. The study highlights both the benefits and trade-offs of microservices, providing insights into their role in building scalable, secure, and flexible software systems.
