Blockchain, Governance, and Government for Smart Cities

Rahul Vadisetty · 2025

Since it is in the recent past that large populations expanded themselves, smart cities begin to surface by marrying innovations and information technology together with urban infrastructure. The cities usually major under pillars that are social, physical, institutional, and economic. What determines the level of intelligence of such cities has been such things as improving the quality of the residents’ life and satisfying the social, economic, and environmental demands. Its decentralized, secure, and auditable and dependable characteristics have huge promise for the development of energy-efficient smart cities. Like blockchain and Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) too is emerging in the development of the application in various spheres of smart cities. It provides cryptographic techniques to ensure data integrity and contains a distributed digital ledger of records in a decentralized network. Proper governance is necessary to provide the establishment of trust, security, and privacy in the context of IoT. A modern future IoT governance system with features of blockchain capabilities should be adopted. The IoT, big data, predictive analysis, and AI are incorporating data science technologies to revolutionize government services with blockchain technology. In fact, the necessary constituents of smart cities include blockchain, IoT, and building information modeling, as they offer information security ensuring smooth operation. Expansion and enrichment of reduction strategies should include protecting infrastructures in acquisitions, analyzing prevailing town substructures and data schemes, setting up central care and processer emergency response teams, radically changing safety training and professional expansion, and directing more attention to preventive security measures.
