Data security in smart cities is a critical aspect that emerged due to a constant increase in interconnected devices and the expansion of the digital infrastructure. The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) devices into information and communication technologies (ICT) platforms generates and potentially exposes vast amounts of sensitive data related to infrastructure, public services, and citizen interactions with the public sector. While cities meet unprecedented opportunities for innovation in the digital era, significant security challenges have also been raised, creating a complex environment. Navigating through these challenges requires the active participation of both public authorities and citizens creating communication channels that can lead to technological advancements that have a social impact while increasing the trustworthiness of smart city ecosystems.
