The article examines the issue of calibration (verification) method improving of electromechanical measuring instruments, in particular wattmeter’s with an assessment of verification methodological error. It is done through the rectangular signals use, despite the fact that traditional calibration methods involve the sinusoidal signals use. The analysis of existing research and publications in the field confirmed that the idea of using rectangular signals in the AC measuring instruments calibration (verification) has both theoretical and practical significance. However, further research has created the prerequisites for revealing new issue facets, its importance, and scientific potential. It has been demonstrated that the rectangular signals use simplifies the hardware implementation of calibration devices through the modern digital circuitry use, which leads to an increase in the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the calibration (verification) process. Special attention in the article is paid to the factors that ensure an increase in the calibration (verification) accuracy, namely, a more accurate calibration signals amplitude and time parameters setting, as well as a significant increase in the accuracy of setting the power factor. The importance of the reference oscillator characteristics, in particular its frequency and stability, to ensure power factor setting high accuracy is emphasized. In general, the article presents a reasonable approach to improving calibration (verification) methods of electromechanical measuring instruments, which allows to increase their practical significance, replenish the database with new knowledge in this area, which will have a positive impact on further useful, innovative developments, and expand approaches to the study of the scientific problem.
