Named Data Networking (NDN) is a promising future internet architecture that replaces traditional IP-based addressing with named content, making it well-suited for IoT-based smart city environments. Effective caching placement and replacement strategies are crucial for optimizing data dissemination, reducing latency, and enhancing network efficiency in such infrastructures. This paper evaluates various caching strategies by simulating a real-world IoT-based smart city scenario using the Icarus platform. The study is conducted on a modeled network topology of Labtek 8 at Institut Teknologi Bandung, testing approximately 20 different combinations of caching placement and replacement strategies. The performance is analyzed based on key metrics such as cache hit ratio, latency, internal and external link loads, and path stretch. The study also highlights trade-offs between computational complexity and performance, providing valuable insights for improving network performance and resource utilization in smart city applications.
