Continuous Program Evolution

Bonnie Jeanne Baty, Claire Rebecca Davis · 2025

Abstract Change is inevitable, and programs must evolve to embrace it. Continuous Program Evolution (Section B.6) covers processes of change as genetic counseling programs develop. Specific topics include philosophical considerations, the centrality of student feedback, evolving curricular concepts, faculty development, evolution of program administration, program evaluation, and negotiating unplanned and planned change. Contributed examples highlight incorporating universal design into a course, interprofessional learning activity with an educational product, developing and rewarding genetic counselors in education (a program faculty structure, training and mentoring supervisors, distributive program leadership, a genetic counseling leadership fellowship), and the use of simulated clients as part of the instruction team.
