Human–Robot Communication and Organization–Public Relationships

Jeyoung Oh, Eyun‐Jung Ki · 2025

Organization–public relationships (OPRs) have been foundational in public relations scholarship. The traditional OPR literature assumes that organizations build relationships with their publics through human-led interactions. However, with robots powered by artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly acting as organizations' voice, it is unclear if the same principles for building trust, satisfaction, commitment, and control mutuality apply. To address this question, this chapter defines key concepts, including human–robot communication and OPRs, and explores relevant theoretical frameworks to provide insights into the potential impacts of AI-powered robots on OPRs.
