In this paper, a prototype of an electronic system dedicated to videonystagmography is presented. This system has two main attributes that distinguish it from other equipment found in the literature or in the commercial market: being a dedicated system, it is completely portable and cost-effective. The portability it possesses allows it to be used for cognitive and neurological clinical evaluation, as well as an early test in presymptomatic stages of various diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD), which are characterised by diagnostic challenges in the early stages of the illness. Moreover, it can be used to complement cognition studies during the disease or in later stages when patients might experience severe impairments in their verbal/motor functions. The proposed system enables the extraction of crucial characteristics from ocular movement by detecting the patient’s pupil position during the study. Additionally, the graphical representation of the obtained ocular movement data proposed allows for an easy and quick interpretation of the collected data. The performance of the presented device was evaluated by contrasting the obtained results with those from a commercial videonystagmography system. In this sense, in the worst case, a precision of 85.1% and a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.9265 were obtained.
