Artificial Intelligence Security

The advancement of AI is attracting the attention of threat actors that are potentially seeking ways to exploit weaknesses in cybersecurity. The evolving threat landscape is experiencing cutting-edge AI-driven threat actors that are making it extremely difficult for organisations to stay ahead of them. This is urging cybersecurity organisations to develop powerful intrusion prevention systems (IPS) that sit directly behind the firewall for added protection. An IPS has powerful algorithms that unceasingly check network traffic to detect threats and take action to neutralise them. Next-generation firewalls (NGFW) are also playing a role as the vanguard for cybersecurity by employing application-specific rules, protect against malware, block anomalous behaviour and prevent actors from entering the network through a nonstandard port. While IPS and NGFW protect the network, a public key infrastructure (PKI) defends data that is being transmitted by creating digital certificates. Public key certificates cryptographically connect ownership of a public key with the entity that owns it, with the specific aim for sharing these keys for data encryption and authentication. The threat posed by AI development is also being addressed by centres for AI safety that are nonprofit research organisations, which focus on the mitigation of AI risks.
