Human–AI collaboration in virtual environments explores how artificial intelligence (AI) enhances immersive experiences. This study examines AI-assisted guidance in a collaborative virtual escape room, where an intelligent agent provides real-time clues, tracks progress, and adapts help based on user actions. Using a mixed-method approach, we evaluated user experience across four dimensions: presence, usability, collaboration, and engagement. Thirty participants interacted with the AI-driven environment and shared feedback through standardized questionnaires. Results show that AI assistance significantly improved usability and engagement while maintaining a strong sense of presence. Adaptive hints reduced frustration and sustained problem-solving momentum. Nonetheless, some participants raised concerns about overreliance on AI and repetitive responses. Findings suggest that AI guidance improves teamwork by lowering cognitive load and boosting immersion, but balancing aid with challenge is crucial. Future research should investigate multi-user dynamics, adaptive difficulty, and enhanced conversational abilities to optimize human–AI interaction in immersive contexts.
