Should Machines Replace Us All?
Stephen J. Andriole · Auerbach Publications eBooks · 2025
This chapter confronts resistance to the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and generative AI (GenAI), despite their demonstrated and potential superiority over human performance in numerous domains. It questions the fears that prevent the aggressive adoption of automation, particularly in areas plagued by human error, inefficiency and inherent biases. The chapter provides compelling evidence of AI’s capabilities in fields like taxation, healthcare, law, finance and even warfare, and the chapter argues that the reluctance to deploy these technologies more broadly is often rooted in vested interests, outdated processes and a lack of urgency rather than the limitations of the technology itself .
